Privacy Policy.
Last updated 05 June 2026. Plain-language summary of how we handle your personal information.
Who we are
This Privacy Policy describes how Africa School of Politics and Governance ("ASPG", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses and shares your personal information when you visit aspguniversity.com and our sub-sites (collectively, the "Site"), apply to a programme, enrol in a course, or otherwise interact with us.
Information we collect
- Identity & contact data — name, email, phone, country, date of birth, ID/passport number you submit on application or registration forms.
- Academic data — transcripts, certificates, motivation statements and supporting documents you upload.
- Account & usage data — login credentials, IP address, browser, pages viewed, course progress, certificate numbers.
- Payment data — invoice and transaction references. Card numbers are never seen or stored by ASPG — payments are processed by PayClio, which holds its own PCI-DSS compliance.
- Communications — messages you send us through the contact form, by email, or as part of a campaign submission.
How we use your information
- Evaluating applications and managing your enrolment, progress, fees and certificates.
- Operating, securing and improving the Site, library and learning platforms.
- Sending operational emails (admissions decisions, invoice notifications, course progress).
- Complying with our legal and regulatory obligations as an education provider.
- Where you have opted in, sending news about programmes, events and the political analyst / statement-of-support movements.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers acting on our behalf (e.g. PayClio for payments, Linusite for hosting infrastructure, our email provider for transactional mail).
- Authorities where required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of our community.
- Within the ASPG group of services, including the library, kiosk and Moodle e-learning environment.
Statements of support submitted through the public campaign forms are published only after review. Email addresses included with statements are never published.
How long we keep it
Application records and academic transcripts are retained for the lifetime of the institution as part of our academic records. Payment records are kept for the periods required by tax law. Account data tied to an inactive student account is anonymised on request.
Your rights
You can:
- Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information;
- Withdraw consent to marketing communications at any time;
- Request deletion of personal information not subject to a legal retention requirement.

Security
Transport is encrypted with TLS 1.2+. Passwords are stored hashed with bcrypt. Sensitive secrets (e.g. payment-provider API tokens) are encrypted at rest using application-key encryption. Despite our safeguards, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
Cookies
The Site uses strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in, remember your form input, and protect against forgery. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or analytics that personally identify you.
Children
ASPG programmes are intended for applicants aged 17 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
