Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in English literature and theology - Specialisation: Policy development and analysis
Programme Descriptor
This is an interdisciplinary doctoral programme at NQF Level 10 designed to train scholars, researchers and leaders to study English language origins, English literature, theology, English law and public policy from ancient times to present, including constitutional and policy developments in Africa.
The programme is structured as a single mother programme with flexible specialization pathways. All candidates are admitted to the same PhD award. Year 1 provides a common interdisciplinary foundation. From Year 2, candidates select a specialization focus:
- Pathway A: English Literature and Theology Focus
- Pathway B: Policy Development and Analysis Focus
Candidates who do not wish to pursue full English Literature component may focus exclusively on Policy Development and Analysis from Year 2 onwards. Their doctoral thesis, research outputs and academic transcript will reflect the Policy Development and Analysis specialization. Final award remains: Doctor of Philosophy in English Literature and Theology - Specialisation: Policy Development and Analysis.
Entry Requirement: Master's Degree at NQF Level 9, 120 Credits, in English, Literature, Theology, Law, Public Policy or related field from ASPG or recognized institution. RPL entry with Master's plus 5 years relevant experience.
Programme Output: Doctoral Thesis (80,000 words, externally examined) + Policy White Paper (20 pages) + Draft National Policy + Policy Submission to Parliament/Government/ASPG Repository.
